We are planning the 25th anniversary of Food Not Bombs tour in North America to encourage people to join the movement to resist Bush and his corporate-war-police-state agenda. We are considering a tour during the Season of Nonviolence from January 30th to April 4, 2007. Our sturdy blue bus will travel from town to town the United States presenting a program that includes music, cooking demonstrations, literature tables, free vegetarian food, a puppet show and video shows. The videos will be about Food Not Bombs groups around the world and resistance to the attacks on our future. They will be projected on a big screen and the audio track will be broadcast on a low watt FM radio station. A band will travel on the bus and play at each show and be aired over the FM station.
In towns where Food Not Bombs groups are and towns in between, we will set up our show in public spaces where as many people as possible can attend. The tour will be coordinated with local Food Not Bombs volunteers who will help post flyers about our show, place listings in local newspapers, magazines and radio stations. We will encourage them to set up interviews with the local media and invite local peace and social action groups to join in the program so they can reach the community about the issues they are working on.
We want to use this tour as a way to promote the documentary about Food Not Bombs produced by award-winning filmmaker Liz Tadic. When completed his one-hour documentary will air on major TV networks all over the world reaching millions of people who might not have heard about this valuable social movement. We also want to promote Keith's book on the 25 years of Food Not Bombs. While in Mexico the second Spanish edition Comida, no bombas - Combatir el hambre y crear comunidad available for donation.
Food Not Bombs cofounder Keith McHenry has organized several very successful tours of North America and two tours of Europe and the Middle East. The Rent is Theft Tour helped start hundreds of unlicensed free radio stations and many new Food Not Bombs groups and the October 22nd No Police Brutality Movement. In 1997, Keith helped plan, and took part in, the UnFree Trade Tour which visited 58 cities and inspired the famous "Battle of Seattle" against the World Trade Organization in 1999. His past experience will help make the 25th Anniversary of Food Not Bombs Tour even more powerful, starting many more new Food Not Bombs groups and inspiring many people to volunteer with existing chapters.
We need to raise $5,000 to buy a FM radio transmitter, buy the video projector and solar cells, finish out kitchen, paint a banner and mural on te bus, puppets, publicity, educational materials, and printing. We also need to print the second Spanish edition of Food Not Bombs. How to Feed the Hungry and Build Community, Please consider making a donation of at least a dollar. More if you can. Thank you.
