SAMPLE LETTER TO CITY OFFICIALS IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA
Dear (city official)
Arresting people for sharing food with the
hungry is shocking. I am writing to ask you to end your campaign to
drive poverty and hunger out of sight by arresting people for sharing
food and literature. I am concerned about your disregard for the right
of people to protest and feed the hungry in Orlando.
How can you arrest people for sharing meals with the hungry at a time
when millions of Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness, the
cost of food is doubling, unemployment continues to increase and more
and more families are facing foreclosure.
I am urging the city of Orlando to:
Implement a moratorium on the arrests of people sharing food at Lake
Eola Park.
Repeal Large Group Feeding Law 18A.09-2.
Drop the charges of those arrested.
Agree to the group's request to a meeting between the Mayor and Food Not
Bombs.
End your campaign of criminalizing poverty in Orlando with laws
restricting the activities of the poor.
The city of Orlando should support Food Not Bombs in seeking an end to
poverty instead of spending the taxpayer's money on efforts to hide the
poor of our community. Please end the arrests and respect the rights of
everyone living in Orlando.
Sincerely,
SIGN THE ON-LINE PETITION Asking the city of Orlando to stop
arresting people for sharing food with the hungry.
